Summer, Summer, Summertime!

That's right! It's here. And whether you're way up north, where I hear it's still snowing, or chillin' down south with us Louisianians, where it's hotter than two goats in a pepper patch (so I guess we're not really chillin', right?), you've doubtless got some sort of plans for the summer months.

Mine? Well, I'm so glad you asked! This Saturday, June 11th, my fellow NOLA-lites and I are hosting our first Summer Writers Workshop. You know those writers conferences you hear about year after year? The ones that cost, like, anywhere from $150 to $200 to even $500 smackaroos? Yeah. I'd love to hit all of 'em, too. Especially that nice big romance hum-dinger in New York City in about 2 weeks or so. For a lot of us, however, dishing out that much extra cash--especially during the summer, when kids are either home, in summer camp, or spending all our hard earned dough at Abercrombie--well... it's simply not an option.

That's why we made this summer workshop so affordable. It's $25, people. Isn't that awesome? TWENTY-FIVE BUCKS! And check this out: We're kicking off the day with DEBRA DIXON, the author of the book everyone should have right there in front of their computer: GOAL, MOTIVATION, & CONFLICT. She's presenting her three hour workshop on GMC, an interactive, educational, inspiring experience no writer should miss. Seriously. It will change the way you write forever.

To add a bit of color to the day (as if Debra's not enough, hello!), we've also lined up super-agent Michelle Grajkowski from Three Seas Literary, USA Today bestselling paranormal author Kerrelyn Sparks, historical author extraordinaire Janet Mullany (SQUEE!), as well as many, many more local authors, ALL of whom will be signing books for the public Saturday afternoon.

Yep, it's gonna be a great day. So, whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or experienced writer, or maybe you're just thinking about dabbling a bit in this whole writing phenomenon, drop what you're doing, and get down here. I promise, it'll be an unparalleled experience as well as great fun.

Peace, Love, and Junior Mints,

25 BUCKS! Wish I lived near you! I just shelled out $159 for my conference/workshops in Sept. And that was the "early bird" special!!

Oh, I have such envy. Except for the part where it's in LA, and I would run into people I used to know. And the humidity, which I wouldn't be able to get off my back.

@BREA Girl, I wish that all the time! Seriously, these conferences are costly; you've just gotta pick and choose wisely, you know?

@Andrew Now, Andrew, we do have air conditioning, remember? Now, from the five seconds it takes to get from a building to your car, you may melt a little, but... *smile*

That sounds awesome! Wish I could go. Debra Dixon is a great speaker. Have a ton of fun rubbing elbows with fellow writers.

1 question, though: do you freeze your Junior Mints?

Alyssia said...

Thanks, Shannon! And oh my goodness, I DO keep at least 2 boxes in the freezer! When I'm editing, it's the perfect brain food, I'm tellin' ya...

Do you freeze yours as well?

The writing workshop was GREAT fun. I'll definitely be talking about it very soon. :)

Hey, glad to hear the workshop was great!

Air conditioning? What's that? I never had air conditioning! Actually, I'm serious. We didn't have air conditioning in my house when I was a kid. I didn't even go to a school with air conditioning until 6th grade. My freshman year of high school (and maybe sophomore, too), only the temporary building were air conditioned. I lived in a state of melt!
