Colorful answers! I love the advice to read outside your genre. That is a real strengthening tool. Looking forward to Stealing without Plagiarizing, excellent hook!

Thank you, Christine! I've actually gotten some of my best ideas from fantasy writers like R.A. Salvatore and contemporary romance writers like Kristin Higgins. They're fresh and different, something for which I desperately strive in my historicals.

You know, I used to make some of the best jumbalaya ever. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out what I did with my recipe when we moved (8 years ago), and I can't quite remember how it all goes together, now. :( That, and I just can't find the right kind of sausage anymore. It's horrible.

A friend of mine and I were up in Canada about 20 years ago, and this place we stopped at was advertising Cajun food pretty heavily. Evidently, it was a big fad up north back then. I warned him not to, but he order something from the Cajun menu anyway. Then complained about. Then did it again at the next 2 places we stopped!

@Donna Thanks for checking out the interview, Donna!

@Andrew Did you, now?! And you know, Cajun food is an art. Not everyone can do it. Just the other day, The Hubby and I headed over to Red Lobster for lunch--I love their salad and clam chowder and OH MY GOSH the cheesy biscuits. Afterwards, someone asked if I had the gumbo, and I said, "Heck, no!" I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to gumbo; I'll only have it if a local makes it, or my momma.

BTB--tell your friend he is NOT to try Cajun food anymore, unless it is in the South or you prepare it.

I'm not a huge gumbo fan. Which is not to say I don't like it, I just prefer jumbalaya. Then, again, I prefer stew to soup, which I imagine has something to do with it.

My friend lived in Shreveport from when he was 12, so he knows better.
