G is for...

Game of Thrones.

I. Freaking. Love. This. Show. The Hubby, too, which makes me so proud, because now he's started listening to the stories on audiobook. Still can't get him to actually read, but hey! It's progress!

Anyway. What's not to love? Adapted from genius author George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, Game of Thrones features brilliant costumes, valiant swordplay, incredible world building (really, these fantasy authors blow me away), and a marvelously talented cast, some of whom are brand new to the acting world.

What stands out the most to me? Besides the way awesome opening credits (you'll watch them every time, even if you've dvr'd it and, therefore, don't have to; you'll see), I love that every single character has an agenda. Each and every major person--and some not so major--has Goal, Motivation, Conflict. Seriously, Mr. Martin is fantastic at threading together story lines and character arcs. In short, he makes me want to write, and write well.

My favorite characters? Daenerys Targaryen (the dragon chick), Khal Drogo, Jon Snow, and Tyrion Lannister. The latter keeps an ongoing balance of chuckle-worth humor throughout the course of each episode. Exceptional writing, folks.

Do you watch GoT? And if not, what's one of your favorite television shows?

Game of Thrones is awesome.

The books at least. I will confess to having only watched one episode, before deciding I wanted to read it all first! Now onto book three and enjoying it so much!

So far my favorite characters are Ayra and Jon. But I'm waiting until the end to hold my judgement on others. There is just so much going on it is hard to pick sometimes!

Thanks for sharing your A-Z! :D

I have seen this show twice on a free preview weekend awhile back... I love this type of show and movie. I will and most definitely have to catch up on it... have you listen to the score to this, I am a fan too... not that the record label is a sponsor of my site or anything.

Good Stuff... to the challenge "G" is for Genuine!

I haven't even read the books yet, I'm so behind with me reading etc. This does look amazing though and will get down to it at some point. Great post :)

Hubs and I just started. Watched the whole first season last week, now we are dvr'ing the second season.

I LOVED the Tudors and wished it never had to end, but the Borgias aren't too bad, and they start season two this Sunday!

I have not seen this series but I so want to watch it. I think I'll look for the DVD so I can start at the beginning. Sean Bean is one of my gave authors!

Duh, actors, not authors. Haha, I guess as a writer it makes sense I have authors on the brain, lol.

I absolutely loved the first series. Haven't had a chance to watch any of the second, but really want to get to the books now :-)

I, too, loved The Tudors and was so sad to see it go. My favorite scene--of all--was the trial of Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey. I love how he held his head high, even as they read his horrendous death sentence. I watched it over and over.

Wonderful comments, everyone! So nice to meet all of you! :)

I heard of Game of Thrones and it looks interesting but nah, I don't watch that particular show. I did, however, recently watch a YouTube bartending video that featured a drink specifically inspired by Game of Thrones. In fact, I think it's called Game of Thrones cocktail or something like that.

The chopped up jalapeno was a concern because I've only heard of eggs and tomatoes being drink ingredients before, but this jalapeno thing was new to me. The drink looked pretty when they finished making it though, lol.

"Parenthood" is one of my favorite television shows.

My husband is hugely drawn by the books and has been long before the HBO shows came out. The day they released the first season, they were in the player and on non-stop. He sucked me into the series as well with the shows. I have to say my favorite is Tyrion (sp).

He's like a mid-evil House. :)

Have you read all five books? And if so, what about the three companion novellas, known as the Dunk and Egg tales?

Definitely check them out if you haven't.

Matthew, I've only read book one. I know! I definitely need to get crackin' on the others. Love Martin's writing and his flair for plot and characterization.

Thanks, All, for the nice comments on my blog. Been awesome getting to know all of you! :)

Ok, you know how big a fan I am of Martin. He is amazing! I read these books a couple of years before the TV series and, like his other fans, complained constantly for him to write that last book (which he did! YAY) They have done an excellent interpretation from book to TV show. Of course, there are differences and season two is deviating even further from the book, but they have kept me captivated! LOVE it!
