Two 4 Tuesday

Gonna start a Tuesday tradition, I think.  Cool with you guys?  Aight.  Y'all are so good to me!

Here it goes. Every Tuesday I'll list Two Things that're really Tickin' my Ticker.  That's like floatin' my boat, but way cooler, because you know, it'll be stuff that makes my heart go pitter-patter. (Girls, think Brad Pitt in Legends of the Fall; Guys, think of... I don't know... your fave Victoria's Secret model showing up at your front door in a French bikini or 90% off all TV's at Best Buy).

Then, dear readers, I'll ask you to reciprocate.  Deal?  Gold stars to all of you.  Let's go!

1. PASTELS.  Out of this world crazy about 'em.  And not just in clothes and shoes, though those are awesome, too.  I'm talkin' everything from food to housewares to towels to nail polish to flowers blooming around well-trimmed lawns and white poodles dyed Easter pink--the whole kit 'n caboodle. Pastels make me think of Spring and sunshine, breezy weather, pretty beaches, and the feel of warm sand beneath my piggies.

2. NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK: THE REVIVAL.  Don't you dare laugh. I was born in '78; NKOTB is a part of my childhood, as are denim jackets loaded with metal buttons, side ponytails, huge bangs that require an entire can of hairspray, jelly bracelets, and tight-rolled jeans. So, to see them touring with 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men and the way cool tribute to wallflowers with their brand new single Remix (I Like The) definitely makes this 80's/90's girl's heart go pitter-patter-pitter-patter. Plus, they're all grown up now and, I don't know, their reappearance from behind the sofa is rather refreshing amongst the pile of Bieber and BeyoncĂ© and... all those other people I don't listen to.

So, what two things are you loving this week?

Music 4 Le Muse

I have entitled so many cdr's with that phrase, I should get a patent or whatever.

#1--and I just have to get this off my chest, so bear with me--but I am so, so weary of Jessie Ware's Our Wildest Moments, I could literally spit bullets or nails or some other sharp, painful object which can be shot in bulk. Thing is, it's not even her fault. She's a beautiful young lady, easy on the eyes, and has a good voice. Plus she names Sade as her biggest influence, whom I love. Even so, VH-1 plays this video non-stop, like 2 times an hour, and if I didn't have a one year old toddling around, watching everything I do, I'd scream at the top of my lungs every time it splattered the tv screen.

Back to the subject at hand.

Music plays a BIG part in my writing process. So much so that I have a WIP (work in progress) folder, as well as a SIP (soundtrack in progress) for whatever current novel I'm working on (the finished ones have completed soundtracks--yeah baby!). Recently while discussing my published works with one of my beta readers, I confessed that Bad Company's Shooting Star will always make me think of Sebastian.

Yes, she looked at me for several seconds like I was crazy.

Then, she said, "I can't picture that. Sorry."

No biggie. Sometimes Le Muse grabs strange songs, makes 'em her own, and slaps 'em on a character or scene without rhyme or reason.

That said, here are the top five tunes currently flitting in and out Le Muse's playlist for the current WIP, Albion:

1. I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift.  Yes, it's Taylor.  Blond, bubblegum, and on your daughter's mp3 player.  But this song influenced an already-written masquerade scene which comes much, much later in the story.  No, I didn't write a choreographed dance, but came so close you would've read it and instantly thought of the Thriller scene in 13 Going on 30.

2. Fresh Pair of Eyes by Brooke Waggoner. One of my favorite songs from the Pretty Little Liars soundtrack, Brooke Waggoner's soft spoken ballad features a lot of humming and wind chimes, and it sets the mood for looking at someone with... well... a fresh pair of eyes.

3. An Ideal Marriage by John Lunn.  If you're a Downton Abbey addict like me, you'll recognize this one straightaway. The push and pull melody beckons that yearning part from all of us, speaking of flawed romance (who can't relate to that?) and wanting something or someone just within reach, but only just (that, too, right?).

4. Baby, Let's Play House by Elvis Presley. This selection likely has something to do with the fact The Hubby and I saw ETA (Elvis Tribute Artist) Donny Edwards last month, and he was AWESOME. Seriously. Guy looks just like Elvis Presley, not to mention he's got his mannerisms and dance moves down to a big capital T. All that aside, this song is fun and bubbly and makes me think of a hero attempting to pull a hardheaded heroine out of a rut. C'mon, girls. Who doesn't love a guy who'll do anything to make us smile?

5. Song Without End by The Chieftains (start @ 6:22).  Crazy thing about this song is The Chieftains only performed it for a One Life to Live show (yes, the soap opera; don't hate) back in the late 90's.  But that's when I saw this band for the first time and fell instantly in love.  So, why this one tune, which can only be found via YouTube and with a terrible picture and horrid sound, when The Chieftains have a gazillion other amazing hits?  Because it makes me think of a wedding day. And since my hero's Irish, and he might marry someone someday...

What's buzzin' on your iPod or stereo right now?  What song comes on the radio or flips around on your player and makes you think, "SCORE!"

Things 2 Love: Fashion, Books, & a New Story

Been a while since I've blogged, but it doesn't mean I haven't been here on the stealth. Confessing the truth, however, I've trolled more fashion blogs than writers and books. Sad, maybe, but hey. I'm still a girl! And I love fashion, makeup, hair, blah-di-blah-di-blah. Nevertheless! Atop my hidden fashionista crown sits the constant love of a good story and creating new ones myself. As a writer, I can only suppress the need of the fictional world for so long before it arrives at my doorstep, demanding to be let in and Let. In. NOW!

Yes, I'm crazy. You needn't say it; Le Muse reminds me of the fact every single day.

That's why I'm working on a new story. I'd like to add "diligently" as a lovely adverb to that "working," but I've been a bad girl as of late. Fashion. Makeup. Shopping with my mother of all people, whom I love, but oh my goodness her love of online bargains exceeds mine, and that's saying something.

All right. So, the new story is currently entitled Albion (look it up; may interest you history buffs), and its a sort-of-dystopian-meets-historical type thing. First person. Main chick is Amanda Grace, and she's British. Main dude is Aidan, and he's Irish. Hey! I just got back from Ireland! He HAD to be Irish! Premise of the story actually came to me in a dream, and no, I'm not attempting to ride on the coattails of Stephenie Meyer--Lord bless her whole heart--I'm actually being serious. Girl finds herself in a medieval castle where mostly men exist. She's a part of an auction, where rich men bid upon women, heretofore winning them at the highest price. She knows who she wants to win her hand, only the highest bidder is someone she least expected. Heck. He's someone EVERYONE least expected.

That's where the fantasy ended.

Now, it's up to me to create, dream up, outline, pull magic rabbits outta my hat for the rest.

Prayers, please.

As for the "books" part of this post, what can I say? I'm not reading anything at the moment! I know, right? Be gentle, avid readers; I'm one of you--really! The Elite by Kiera Cass is on the way, and I full intend to dig right in once it arrives in the post. LOVED the first novel, The Selection. Simple writing. Lovely story. Couldn't put it down. Hopefully its sequel shall prove equal to the task.

So, what are YOU reading right now?

Peace, Love, and Junior Mints,
