Meet Alyssia

"If my doctor told me I had only six minutes to live, I wouldn't brood. I'd type a little faster."
-- Frank Muir

Started tinkering with novels at fourteen—handwriting on lined paper, spiral notebooks, napkins, receipts. Graduated in the late 90’s, so, yes, I’m a 90’s chick. Give me all of your Nirvana t-shirts, flannels, dark lipsticks and moody attitudes. Married young and moved to Louisiana. Found out I sorta-kinda like the law, worked for a judge, went to school for paralegal studies. Somewhere in there I wrote and published my first book, Betrothed, which was followed by two more historical romances and the first book in a young adult fantasy romance series, The Symbolon Series.
That’s me in a nutshell. If you’re biting off perfectly good fingernails to know more, I stole this idea from Sabaa Tahir (huzzah!):
I’ve worked as a: Cosmetics consultant, phone teller (like a bank teller, but…you know…over the phone), cocktail waitress (oh, the stories…), receptionist, deputy clerk to a judge, paralegal and writer.
If I wasn’t a writer, I’d be: Amy Lee, touring and singing my heart out on stage every night.
When I was a kid I wanted to be: A fireman.
Favorite music: We can’t go there in this little bit of space. But YOU can go here.
Favorite book: Silas Marner by George Eliot
Favorite movie: Impossible to pick one, but…Silence of the Lambs, Sabrina, Clueless (I usually can’t get through a day without quoting Cher or Dionne at least once…) and Harry Potter.
Favorite TV Shows: Friends (again, with the quoting…JOEY DOESN’T SHARE FOOD!), Scandal, The Goldbergs, Suits and The Santa Clarita Diet.
I live: for now…in upstate Louisiana, near Shreveport, but I’m a born and raised Mississippi girl.
Ultimate goal in life: To write for a living from my cottage somewhere in County Claire, Ireland.
Personal motto: Never judge a book by its cover. (But I totally do. Not people, of course. Just books.)
Special Skills: BSing my way through letters of recommendation and conversations. I really am decent at makeup application, but not FX. That would be cool, though. Um…baking. Ooh! And I can peel crawfish fast and well. Ta da!
Most people don’t know: I always listen to an
audiobook while getting ready. I’m in concert every morning on my way to work.
